Company story
Sphere is an AI-powered connections platform that gives you one right person instead of a thousand swipes — for friendship, business networking, activity partners, and love.
Sphere started from a simple observation: dating apps are designed to keep you swiping, not to get you a connection. The business model is broken. Tinder and Bumble profit when you stay in the app. Sphere profits only when you find someone — and then stay as a subscriber because the matching keeps working. That alignment changes everything about how the product is built.
Instead of infinite swipes, Sphere's AI runs a deep onboarding conversation, builds a behavioral profile, and delivers one curated match per week — with a plain-language explanation of exactly why the two people fit. Activity overlap, schedule alignment, life stage, shared context. Not a photo and five words.
After 1,000+ AI-generated matches, the data is in: Sphere's match-to-conversation rate is 67%. The industry average on swipe apps is approximately 2%. The difference isn't the AI — it's the intent. Sphere is built to get you off the app and into a real interaction as quickly as possible.

Founder
Founder & CEO, Sphere
Artem Shevchenko is the founder and CEO of Sphere, an AI-powered connections platform replacing swipe-based dating with one high-signal match per week. He built Sphere after observing that the core mechanics of mainstream dating apps — infinite swipes, superficial filtering, engagement-over-connection design — create a system that profits from keeping users lonely.
Artem is a builder-first founder: he wrote the original Sphere matching engine, Telegram bot, and venue platform as a solo developer before bringing on AI agents and a small team. His background is in full-stack engineering and product design, with a particular focus on AI/ML applied to human behaviour prediction.
Based between Warsaw and London, Artem is currently focused on Sphere's go-to-market expansion across European cities, and on publishing the first publicly available data on AI match quality benchmarks — work he believes the broader industry needs to see.
"Dating apps don't fail because the AI is bad. They fail because the business model rewards keeping you swiping, not getting you a date. We built Sphere with the opposite incentive. We only win if you win."
— Artem Shevchenko, Founder of Sphere
Quotes for use in articles
"Activity-based matches convert to real conversations at 4.3× the rate of appearance-based matches. The data is in. What matters is not what someone looks like, but whether you both go running at 7am."
Artem Shevchenko, Founder of Sphere — on match quality data
"The constraint is the feature. When you have one match to focus on, you actually read the explanation. You treat it like it matters. Because it does. That's what 1,000 swipes can't replicate."
Artem Shevchenko, Founder of Sphere — on the no-swipe model
"Tinder's match-to-conversation rate is around 2%. Sphere's is 67%. I'm not saying that to brag — I'm saying it because the gap tells you something about what the last 10 years of swipe design actually produced."
Artem Shevchenko, Founder of Sphere — on industry benchmarks
"Most AI dating apps are Tinder with a filter. They use ML to rank the same pool of profiles. Sphere doesn't rank — it understands. The AI builds a behavioral model and finds real overlap. Not filtered noise."

Sphere charges premium subscription prices (up to $59/month) and deliberately limits matches. It shouldn't work. It does. The founder explains why incentive alignment beats feature lists.
Activity-partner matches outperform romantic matches on first-message rate. Sphere's highest-converting connection type has nothing to do with dating. What this reveals about how people actually want to meet.
Sphere is pre-seed, founder-led, and running on a Telegram bot. Artem wrote the matching engine himself. The rise of AI-native solo founders building products that compete with VC-backed apps.
